ABOUT KENSINGTON-CEDAR COTTAGE

Although East Vancouver was not always a sought out location in which to purchase a home, it has grown in every way possible, and is now a bustling community of businesses and neighbourhood conveniences.

Cedar Creek is located between Fraser Street to the west, Nanaimo Street to the east, 16th Avenue running along the north, and 41st Avenue bordering the south …a large district with an ethically diverse group of neighbours, with scenic views from the top of the city’s east-west ridge.

Settled in 1888 by Arthur Wilson who opened Wilson’s Cedar Cottage Nursery, this area could still been considered a “settlers community” today, with only 35% of the current residents speaking English as their first language.

Although that number might seem high (or low, depending on how you look at it), one has to take into consideration that only half (50%) of the greater Vancouver residents speak English as their first language.

So Kensington, Cedar Cottage, Commercial Drive or Robson Street …no matter which community you inhabit, your neighbour is likely to be as ethnically diverse as you are. That is why Vancouver as a whole is such a dynamic city in which to life!

EAST VANCOUVER NEIGHBOURHOODS

Today East Van is home to all walks of life, and offers everything from opulent to afforable, modern to remodeled, and spacious to quaint. East Vancouver is bordered to the north by the Burrard Inlet, with the Fraser River to the south, and the city of Burnaby to the east. In addition, the community of East Van is divided by Main Street on the West Side of Vancouver, spanning quite a large area and giving people a variety of real estate buying options on every corner.

THE CEDAR COTTAGES COMMUNITY

Once a working-class community, it has branched out beyond its original roots, now including young professionals and growing families within its borders.

With the local elementary school boasting of a healthy enrolment, this community definitely has seen a spike in young energy running up and down its streets, bringing fresh energy and revamped housing options onto the marketplace.

Recently, the City concocted a plan to combine the community of Kensington with Cedar Cottage, with plans for new sidewalks and lighting, foliage and landscaped medians, as well as roundabouts and bikeways leading to redeveloped parks.
