ABOUT ROBSON STREET
Robson Street makes it’s entrance at BC Place Stadium on the shoreline of False Creek, and ends at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, with the main shopping area condensed to about 2/3rds of that. Along it you will find the Library Square and Vancouver Art Gallery, offering both educational and artistic venues in which to explore.
Named after John Robson – a BC great from the Canadian Confederation, and Premier of the province back in 1889 until 1892, Mr. Robson held an important role in Canada’s past, lending his name to an equally important street within Vancouver today. Even in 1895, when Vancouver was still emerging as a metropolis, the Canadian Railway laid down tracks in order to allow visitors access to the concentration of dining and shopping areas that lined Robson Street.
From the mid-late 20th century, with the post-war German immigration population coming into Vancouver, the northwest end of Robson Street quickly became the hub for German culture, and was nicknamed Robsonstrasse. The name maintains its roots with the Robsonstrasse Hotel, although the street signs reading as such have passed away over time.
Another interesting tidbit about Robson Street, is that it was actually featured on an old edition of the Canadian Monopoly board as one of the two most expensive properties to purchase …nothing short of the truth really!

Robson Street is known, and often referred to, as the ‘Rodeo Drive’ of Vancouver. It spans a large portion of downtown Vancouver, and is a thoroughfare running between Burrard Street and Jervis, where you will find some of the biggest names in retail. 2006 saw the rise of a massive overhaul of Robson Street, declaring it the 5th most expensive place for retail rental rates in the world – with a price tag of $135US per square foot. Already known as one of the most expensive places to live in the world, Vancouver maintains this opulent standing within one of their most prestigious shopping districts as well.
